They grow up so fast. Josh Schwartz, creator of The O.C., Chuck, Gossip Girl, and Rockville CA, is set to make his feature directional debut with a new adaptation of the 1984 novel Bright Lights, Big City. Schwartz is also writing the new script.

The novel was previously adapted into a film in 1989, and starred Michael J. Fox, Kiefer Sutherland, Phoebe Cates, and Pushing Daisies’ Swoosie Kurtz.

Congrats, Mr. Schwartz. This is just a suggestion, but how about Adam Brody in the Michael J. Fox role?

Behind The Music With Alex Patsavas

Ever wonder why a lot of Josh Schwartz shows like Gossip Girl and The O.C. have  such amazing soundtracks? A big part of it is music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas, who Schwartz teamed up with to create Rockville CA. As part of their cover story on Gossip Girl, Rolling Stone examined how Patsavas meshes music with the narrative in a story called “Gossip Girl’s Top Music Moments” I have a feeling the process works the same on other Schwartz/Patsavas collaborations…like Rockville CA.

“Mercy” for Michelle Trachtenberg

Pilot season continues on, and I still don’t have a buyer for my show, 21 Jump Tweet, about a rogue cop who solves crimes using twitter.

On the other hand, Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Gossip Girl star Michelle Trachtenberg, has some good news. She’s been cast in the pilot for the medical drama Mercy, where she’ll be playing a “tragically unhip nurse.” Tragically unhip sounds like a nerd with Lou Gehrig’s disease, but knowing Hollywood, Trachtenberg will just be playing a woman who wears glasses and a ponytail and doesn’t listen to T-Pain.

If you didn’t already know, The CW is thinking of producing a Gossip Girl spin-off set in 1980’s Los Angeles, and centered on a young version of Lily van der Woodsen. Now Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (creators of Gossip Girl, The O.C., and this possible spin-off) are considering having the young Lily cross paths with two characters from The O.C.: Kirsten Nichol (who later would become Kristen Cohen) and Jimmy Cooper. Does this mean all the characters from Josh Schwartz shows live in the same world? Can Chuck visit club Rockville CA? We’ll let you know any updates.

Rockville CA premiered this morning, and if you haven’t watched it already, stop reading this blog immediately and come back after you’ve watched at least the first episode.

Welcome back. Television Week sat down with Rockville CA creator Josh Schwartz to ask some questions about a show that was, ironically, not created for television. Schwartz, the mastermind behind The O.C., Chuck, and Gossip Girl, talks about how he adapted his writing style to fit the web environment, the future of Chuck, and the possible Gossip Girl spin-off.

You can read the entire interview here.

If you watch One Tree Hill, you know Peyton’s super creepy/very fit stalker Derek. If you don’t watch OTH, here’s a clip of him being creepy/very fit. The word today is that the actor who plays Derek, Matt Barr, has been cast on the upcoming Gossip Girl spinoff, from Chuck, Rockville, CA, and The O.C. creator Josh Schwartz.

I hope they don’t try and make Barr creepy. That’s some typecasting you want to avoid.

Rockville CA Coming Up!

Moye March 10th, 2009 11:45 am | No Comments »

joshschwartzWe’ve got a week before Rockville CA launches here on The WB. Creator Josh Schwartz recently sat down with the Washington Post to talk about the new web series.

Despite his success with shows like The O.C., Gossip Girl and Chuck, Schwartz talked about how writing and producing webisodes was the best thing ever:

So much of what takes the fun out of doing a TV show is the ratings. The thing that was incredible about this was the freedom. There were no notes on scripts. I was able to cast whoever I wanted to cast for the show, and that was really freeing. It was really about: You have a point of view, you have a vision for something, go do it.

That’s how we like to do it here at The WB!

If you haven’t already, check out the trailer and cast photos on the Rockville CA page or join the Facebook fan page here!

S. Darko is a sequel to the trippy 2001 sci-fi cult movie Donnie Darko, and centers around Donnie’s little sister, Samantha. Instead of Jake and Maggie Gyllenhaal, this movie features One Tree Hill’s James Lafferty and Gossip Girl star Ed Westwick.
